“The water that I shall give will become a spring of water within, welling up to eternal life”, John 4:14
The Wellspring Community seeks to live a life centred on Jesus Christ – a life of communion with God and others. Living the Gospel in a common life, inspired by the early Christian community in Jerusalem (Acts of the Apostles), they take the Rule of St Benedict as their guide.
The members root their hearts in Jesus through daily prayer, together and alone, and their mission flows from this contemplative life: a mission of welcome, sharing the Gospel, and serving the local community.
Wellspring first began in 2005 as four young adults living and serving in the parish. They have grown and evolved over the years; today, amongst their membership is a family, and a number of young people discerning their call. They welcome people to join them for a year or more to deepen their life of prayer, receive formation in the Christian faith, and to get involved in mission in the local area.
Their mission focuses primarily on working with teenagers and young adults, working as chaplains at Cardinal Newman Catholic School, running the Students/Young Adults work in St Joseph’s parish, developing mission outreach in the local estates, and running a programme of retreats for young people at Worth Abbey.
You can join them for Evening Prayer at 6:30pm (weekdays in term time) at St Joseph’s church – all are welcome!
The Community is a private association of Christ’s faithful, formed with the support of Worth Abbey, and serving within the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. For more info, visit: www.wellspringbrighton.org.uk
